Welcome

Harvard Medical School
It is a pleasure to welcome all of you to the second Reflection in Action: Building Healthy Communities™ event at Harvard Medical School. We join together—students, teachers, parents, community members, faculty and staff—to identify and promote many components of healthy life styles: nutrition, exercise, informed decision making based on health awareness and science knowledge, and clean and safe environments in which to work, play and relax. These environments include our schools, offices, houses of worship, hospitals, clinics, community spaces, and our homes.
We are delighted that so many students contributed original pieces of writing, spoken word, dance, art or rap to this city-wide contest. Thank you to each and every student to her/his teachers and parents who provided encouragement, and to our judges who took the time to carefully review each submission.
I also want to express appreciation to the members of our Reflection in Action: Building Healthy Communities™ Advisory Committee. Thank you for partnering with us; your contributions greatly added to the planning, implementation and success of this collaborative effort.
To the exhibitors and sponsors who will be participating in this afternoon’s Community Health Fair, our thanks and gratitude. To Sidewalk Sam, the creative inventor of Chalk One Up for Health, special thanks and recognition. Without each and every one of you, this event would not have been possible. Thank you for your time, your generosity of resources and spirit, and your energetic commitment to improving the health of our community through education and outreach.
Sincerely,
Joan Y. Reede, MD, MPH, MS
